Born in Long Island, NY but raised in Cincinnati, OH, I always pictured a city life. A corporate job requiring high heels, a cramped NYC apartment I could barely afford and happy hour at a bar in Brooklyn.
At 16 I would tell my mom that I was leaving the Queen City and never returning. Ohio just didn’t have the life I wanted. And, for awhile, I did just that. I spent a summer in Manhattan as an editing intern. I traveled to Toronto with one of my best friends time and time again for One Direction Concerts and worked 50 hour weeks at Chipotle to pay for my adventures.
When I was 21, however, I met Ben and everything changed.Flash forward a few years and this city girl has gone a little bit countryClick To Tweet
I live in the suburbs of Cincinnati with my husband, our two pups and our first son. I listen to country music and have fallen in love with farmhouse decor.
Though I am sure sixteen year-old me is shaking her head and wondering where the dream was forgotten, I know that the dream has just changed.
I don’t want to sit here and pretend we are the perfect couple (though we are pretty darn cute). We do not have the perfect relationship. We have strong personalities and are as stubborn as they come. We fight and disagree. He challenges me and I push him. But each night is ended with a kiss and “I love you.” And really, what more could I want?
I always wanted a storybook love and, thanks to my BFF, I got just that. And this story is on-going.
In October 2016 we got married.
April 2017 we bought our house.
June 2017 we adopted our pup, Mozzie.
October 2017 we adopted our pup, Macy.
November 2017 we threw our wedding reception.
October 2018 we had our first son.
It has been a wild ride, and I don’t know where we are headed next, but we’re figuring it all our together and want to invite you to ride along with us.
My Journey into Blogging
In my sophomore year American History class, I began writing a story. I would pass each ripped out notebook page to a friend since 2nd grade and she would read it while our teacher lectured.
That first story was about a girl named Riley Carlson who was a high school sophomore by day and a secret agent by night.
What can I say? I was super into the idea of spies as a kid.
Writing has been a part of my life ever since.
In 2014 I started my first blog on blogger. There I wrote and uploaded a story titled “That Direction” (take a guess at that one) that one friend read. Occasionally a lifestyle post or social commentary piece would make an appearance on that first blog.
Over the years I dabbled in blogging here and there but was never able to commit. I didn’t know what to write about and had no idea what I had to say that people would care about.
When I found out I was pregnant in February, I knew that my goal would be to stay at home to raise our child. The catch? I still wanted to add to our household income.
Writing has been my passion since I was 15 and I wanted to make that my source of income, so I decided I would finally commit to According to Kayla.
About According to Kayla
I finally decided on the name According to Kayla after watching the one and only episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s I’ve seen. My first thought was Keeping Up With
According to Kayla is, first and foremost, an invitation into life as a twenty-something wife and mom. Now that I’ve been at this for a little while now, and LOVE my blog, I want ATK to be more than that. I want to create, build and foster a community of women to be the queens and princesses we were born to be. Whether we are talking about feeling confident in a bathing suit or falling on our faces parenting, I want this to be a place where you can come, pour a glass, and enjoy something fun to read and interact with other, like-minded women.
I am at the beginning of my blogging journey, even though I have had my hand in the game for four years, and hope that I am able to turn this into a place where you can come to unwind, laugh and share your own story!
